Over the last few weeks I have tried a variety of new drinks. Some just new to me and some new in general. Let's start with the dirty sodas because this felt like it came out of left field (I know it didn't) and I couldn't be happier.
The first new release I tried was the Dunkin dirty soda. It has Pepsi, Dunkins coffee milk and sweet cold foam. I did not know what to expect or what it would taste like and I was pleasantly surprised. The decadent caramely flavor of the coffee milk mixed with the Pepsi kind of reminded me of Dr Pepper. I would definitely get it again.
The second dirty soda release I tried was the Mcdonalds line. We tried the sprite, Dr Pepper and orange Hi-C variations. These ones use syrups and cold foam so it didn't have the same affect as milk or creamer mixed in with the drink. Out of all of them I was mostly disappointed with the Dr Pepper one, only because I've had some gourmet variations of a dirty Dr Pepper. Bahama Bucks has a coconut based one and I think that set my expectations high. The Mcdonalds one uses vanilla syrup and cold foam. It could have also been the lack of creamer inside the drink. The other two though... so refreshing! The Sprite has a blue raspberry syrup and cold foam. This one reminded me of the 7 Brew fizz I've had and I love it. The orange Hi-C one has vanilla syrup and cold foam. This one reminded me of a dreamsicle, one of my favorite flavor combinations. Overall, I would get all of them again but I think the blue raspberry one was my fav.
The next few drinks I tried are matchas. We went to Arya Tea Bar which is a new cafe that opened in Downtown West Palm Beach. Because it was my first time, I stuck with a tried and true flavor - the strawberry matcha. I did not like it. Although I appreciate their healthy ingredients of choice, it tasted watery and flavorless. The strawberry flavor didn't really stand out to me. I did get almond milk so that could have affected the drink. They also sweeten their drinks with a honey syrup and I'm used to a stronger profile like maple syrup. The matcha profile that the barista recommended to me was the bolder one because I'm a daily matcha drinker. But it made the drink really bitter. Overall, I was just not used to this type of flavor profile. She had mentioned some drinks that were not on their menu like a date and coconut brulee matcha, and I think I'll give one of those a try next time. I would still recommend the tea bar because it's a unique experience and they have a variety of drinks. It was also super customizable which is great and maybe I just need to find my perfect flavor profile.
The second matcha I tried was the new blueberry soft top matcha at the Salty Donut. This one was also not what I expected and I didn't love it, but I liked it more than the Arya one. It was a thicker consistency overall and the blueberry flavor was more prominent. I'm not sure I would get it again though.
