My Princess Diaries Themed Birthday Party

For years I've been wanting to do a Princess Diaries themed birthday party, and it just never worked out. But thankfully it worked out for my 30th! And I think it's even more iconic that way. In todays blog I want to share some of the decor items I incorporated into my cozy at home party that were references to the movie.

There are so many ways you can go about this with how you decorate or the type of party you have. Mine was probably as laid back as it could be. It was a movie / pajama night and just at home. I looked at movie two for inspiration for my pink pajamas because Mia wears pink pajamas at the slumber party. That was pretty much the only nod to movie two at my party.

The main decorative piece was probably the balloon arch so I went with a pink and pastel color scheme, a iridescent wall curtain and created a sign that said "me 30? shut up!" on the wall. This was in reference to the scene where Mias grandmother tells her shes a princess and she says "me? a princess? shut up!". I also had "30" balloons that were 2.5 ft as a photo prop.

The table scape was the other main decorative area. I chose a baby blue table cloth that referenced the school uniforms. I tried to find a blue tartan paper plate set but the best I could do was blue stripes which still worked well with the theme. I remembered I had a pack of plaid scrapbook paper leftover from a previous project and found a blue print to put in the center of the table. I also found a blue mustang toy car at the dollar tree to reference Mias mustang in the movie.

Nothing was identical, but it still worked. I ordered a tiara off of amazon and when I was not wearing it, it served as a centerpiece on the table. One random thing I stumbled across in Walmart was a pack of iridescent stars which has to be one of my favorite decorative pieces of the party. This was in reference to the song the choir sings and Mia sings in the car while it rains "catch a falling star and put it in your pocket, never let it fade away".

Another aspect of the party that kind of incorporated everything together was the pizza. We ordered dominos and I wrote "sorry" on my pizza with m&ms. This was in reference to when Mia sends Michael a pizza. I'm sure there are better more exact ways to decorate for this party theme, but something about it being randomly thrown together, partially DIY-ed, and finding random pieces of decor that referenced the movie in some way was special.

There are so many routes you could go with the food - corn dogs, mint ice cream, chocolate ice cream cones... and so many party themes - a grand ball, sleepover, rock climbing...and I plan to share a blog post and video with all of the different things you could do for this party theme, because at the end of the day, it is my favorite movie and I think that would be fun!
